Happy New Year 2026!

I know it's not quite time yet - but I'm tired, and can't be bothered to wait fifteen minutes to upload this pixel art of Chops I made to herald the change in date. Happy 2026, and thank you very much to everybody who's shown interest in Data West this year - I know I post a lot of game logos and then abandon them, so it's my new years' resolution to actually finish a game I've started.

... That, and lose the gut. Gotta get in shape this year. :D

Granny?

The last post of 2025... who is this? Well, stick around in the new year, and you're GON-na find out. :D

'Chops Into Dreams'?!

What's this? What could this be? Is it a game? I mean, I guess it's a game, because it's on the Data West social media, but I guess we'll have to wait to find out. Many days... and many Nights.

'Caves N' Cards' Logo (v2)

Logo for Caves N' Cards (v2). We weren't happy with the initial logo design for Caves N' Cards, so it was back to the drawing board for another crack at it. Much better, we think. :)

'Caves N' Cards' Announce!

Data West is hopping on the gravy train! Caves N' Cards is a Stone Age themed, Rogue-like deck-builder - where you play as one of a number of pre-historic protagonists, each with their own story to tell.

... The cast of characters each have their own individual deck and play style (more on this at a later date!), and there'll be plenty of room for customisation and development. It's early days for the project, but what we can reveal is that Caves N' Cards is going to be more fun than lunch with a T-Rex.

'Sewer Sisters' Update!

Concept art of 'Bash' (Untitled Stone Age Game).

If you've been keeping up with the various Data West posts on social media, you'll be aware of the game Sewer Sisters. As the game was previously bordering on copyright infringement regarding all things Mario, we decided to rejig the concept, and make it 'Stone Age' in theme. Here's some concept art of 'Bash', the main character of the - as yet untitled - game.

For more information on this, and all other Data West games, please keep it locked to our socials! Compliments of the season to you! :D

DocTorus!

The first character from our action Rogue-like, Sweet Survivors, is Dr. Torus - who may, or may not, be inspired by a certain marvellously strange doctor.

... For more information about Sweet Survivors, and all other Data West games, please keep it locked to the Data West socials! Thank you! :D

'Sweet Survivors' Announce!

Another game in the works here at Data West, is Sweet Survivors - an action Roguelite featuring several food-related protagonists, fending off a never-ending horde of sentient snacks. It's our homage to the great Vampire Survivors, although not quite as serious in mood - hopefully, we can inject a little bit of Data West magic, to prevent the game from being a total bandwagon jump.

Degenerate Developer Demo II: 'Mr. Camo'

We've been working on Mr. Camo today, and now the extendible tongue grabs and pulls objects towards the player! Now featuring some new pixel art that isn't quite as eye rapacious.

For more information on Mr. Camo, and all Data West games, please check out our socials! Thank you! :D

Degenerate Developer Demo #1

It's extremely early days for Mr. Camo, but I'm sure you can tell from this little gameplay demo that it's going to be the most fun you've ever had, when it drops in 202X.

'Mr. Camo' Concept Art

Been toying with the idea of making a version of the classic arcade game Frogger, and thought an interesting new mechanic would be to have an extendible tongue that pulls the player across the screen, or pulls distant objects towards them (kind of like the 'Hook Shot' in Zelda, I guess). That led to designing a chameleon character for a multiplayer game, where you have to pull other players into holes in the arena. Probably won't go anywhere, but thought it would be a nice portfolio addition.

Project Edgeguard Name Change!

After some deliberation, and coming to the realization that the game (and furthermore, the genre it's spawned) wouldn't have existed without
Super Smash Bros., we've changed the name of our game to a more complimentary, (less Nintendo-bashing!) alternative.

Project Edgeguard is an indie 'platform fighter' that's in the works at Data West. It's very early days for the game, but if it ever comes out, we can exclusively reveal that it's going to be the most fun you've ever had, ever. For serious.

For more information on the game, please check out Data Wests' socials! Yahoo!

'Ten Coin Dunk: F' Start!

A tentative logo we're not entirely happy with for Ten Coin Dunk: F, a monster battling video game that is a shameless rip-off of that other monster battling videogame that you might have heard of.

... How shameless, you ask? Try running the title through an anagram generator (or for all the smarties out there, work it out in your head!). We are quite brazen in our tomfoolery.

Keep it locked to our socials for more, when there is more! :D

'Snak Man' v2!

We thought that the first iteration of 'Snak Man' wasn't really keeping with the feel we wanted for our Pac-Man homage, and the enlarged sprite collision area ended up being a pain - so here's version two of the character, who we think is a little bit more in keeping with Namco's spherical hero, while at the same time, suitably different to avoid legal issues.

(... And yes, 'Snak Man' is a pizza with a slice taken out. Very astute.) :D

'Sewer Sisters' Logo v1

Initial logo design for Sewer Sisters, a shameless rip-off Roguelite love letter to Nintendo's classic 1980s arcade game, Mario Bros.]

... The game focuses on the adventures of 'Maria' and 'Louisa', two plumbers called out to clear the local sewer system of any crud that's proving to be a problem. What they didn't realise when they took the job, is that the 'crud' happens to include a menagerie of crazy critters that have been flushed - some of which have grown to colossal size!

You'll bash, kick, and stomp your way to clearing out the sewer, gradually getting stronger as you go, but be warned - in typical Roguelite style, you only get one shot at it. The question is, are you a bad enough dude to rescue the President? Find out when Sewer Sisters comes to a PC near you, in 202X - that is, if Nintendo haven't cease-and-desisted it into gaming oblivion!

For more information on this, and all the other games that will probably never come out, tune in to our social media channels! Excelsior!

"What's a Game Boy?"

We're intending to write games with the aesthetic of the original Game Boy console, so we thought 'Why not complete the look with an authentic looking border?'. So, we did.

"Food Feud"?!

In case you were wondering what's happening at Data West Towers, here's what we've been tooling around with. Here's some *extremely* early, rough-as-guts test footage of a 'Burger Time' homage in the works. It might not look like much, but it's enough motivation to get us to work on a full-fat version.

... For more information on this, and all our other projects, please check out our socials! Thank you!

'Snac Man' Announce!

You like Pac-Man, right? And it goes without saying that you also like the 'Roguelike' genre? Of course you do! But what if the two got into a horrible accident, and were mangled into one hideous abomination?

... Well, that's what Snac Man is all about! The classic dot-munching gameplay you love, with Roguelite elements. It's going to be absolutely awesome, so keep it locked to the Data West socials for more on the game, when it's ready! "Waka waka!"

'Slime Time' Announce!

You'll never believe this, folks - there's a game at Data West Towers that you can actually PLAY! I shit you not, the core game of Slime Time is in a playable state - what comes next is adding options, so you can tweak the settings.

For those of you who don't know, Slime Time is a four-player game featuring a quartet of sentient blob folk, as they try to dominate the board by covering it with a trail of goo. The first one to capture the equivalent of half the board, wins! I know it sounds simple in theory, but there will be 'added extras' to make taking the crown that little bit more difficult...

For more information on Slime Time (and all Data West's other games!), please keep an eye on our socials!

'Paint Pals' Announce!

I know I've blasted you with logos recently, but this is the last one, for now. Paint Pals is a game with a simple premise; you take the role of one of the Paint Pals, and try to fill the game board with your colour. It's not as easy as it sounds - you have a limited paint supply, and there are up to three other players trying to achieve the same goal.

Will you come out on top, or get painted into a corner? Find out, in 202X!

'Boulder Crash' Announce!

Another new project in the works at Data West. My recent game concepts have been a little too ambitious for my current skill level, so I thought I'd have a crack at something a little less complex. Boulder Crash is my own take on the classic gem-hunting arcade game of a similar name (I don't have the money for lawsuits!).

Little Timmy's Lemonade Stand!

More Data West game concept artwork! This is the logo for Timmy's, a lemonade stand simulator. You play the role of Timmy, who's just an average kid trying to make a little bit of extra pocket money.

... It's early days for the project, but hopefully it won't get shelved like a crate full of expired lemons. For more information on the game (and all our games!), please keep it locked to the Data West socials!

'Nips' Announce GET!

Thought I'd share the logo of Data Wests' latest project, 'Nips. It's an Rogue-lite action RTS, where you take control of a farmer who befriends a race of sentient turnip folk, and does battle with... another race of sentient turnip folk (how about that for an imaginative concept?).

At the moment, we're thinking a sort of 'Pikmin' meets 'Age Of Empires' sort of dealio. Now, you may be thinking 'How will this work with Nintendo's patent on monster summoning?'. Our answer being, 'We're purposely putting things in the game that conflict with it, just to spite them.'

... As usual, keep an eye on our socials for more information!

'Clanimals' Announce!

''Sudo And Kuu's Puzzle House' Debut!

Data West has this little gem on the boil, too. Sudo And Kuu's Puzzle House is what can loosely be described as 'rogue-lite sudoku', where you traverse a procedurally-generated den of puzzles with Sudo and Kuu - your friendly neighbourhood ninja, and her tanuki sidekick.

... Will you make it through the ever-changing house, or will Japan's greatest export bamboozle you? Find out, in 202X!

For more information on the game when it's released, please keep an eye on the Data West socials! Until then... 'Don't touch my moustache!'.

'Melon Farm': Coming Soon!

Melon Farm is a game that's in the works, here at Data West Towers; it features all the fun of growing watermelons, without any of the environmental responsibility. Inspired by the 'Harvest Moon' franchise (but on a much smaller scale!), you'll write your own story of melon mastery, that begins with planting your very first seeds. ... Are your fingers green enough? Find out, in 202X!

...For more information about the game as it's released, please follow the Data West socials. Until then, dream sweet dreams of your very own watermelon empire! "See You Next Game!"

Ozymandias, Thing Of Things!

Concept art of 'Ozymandias' (Soulstice: The Longest Night).

"The Soulstice gravy train rolls on, folks! This is 'Ozymandias', the second character of the roster. He's an Arabian magic lamp, who wanders on the Solstice to find a worthy owner for his family of sentient relics.

... You may be wondering how a teapot is going to bring you success. At one time, I would have joined you in that, but strange things can happen on the longest night..."

Soulstice: The Longest Night is a 2D fighting game in the works at Casa Data West. For more information on the game, check out our FaceBook page at http://www.tinyurl.com/datawestgames ! Thank you!

More Kappa Art...

More concept art of 'Kappa', the trickster yokai from the 2D indie fighter, 'Soulstice: The Longest Night'.

Want A Kappa Tea?

Straight from the pages of a Japanese folktale comes the first character of Soulstice, 'Kappa'. What he lacks in originality (and hair), he makes up for in agility and chill vibes (he'll totally invite you to the swamp for a kappa tea, should you happen to be suitably easy-going). Expect a move set involving water-based trickery, and some disgustingly small hitboxes.

For more on Kappa and Soulstice, when it drops, please keep an eye on our socials (which you know well about, because this is on one of them!)

Soulstice: The Longest Night Debut!

"The Winter Solstice brings with it the longest night of the year. Cloaked in a veil of shadow, those who do not fear the dark battle for supremacy. One will see the dawn - but who? Or... WHAT?"

Soulstice is a 2D fighting game project (that was previously a card game), underway at Data West Towers. It's inspired by both French Bread's 'Under Night', and Capcom's 'Vampire'.

... Keep it locked to our socials for more information, and don't scream too loudly - they'll hear you...

Pocket Hunter!

Folks, Nyan Impact is dead... long live Pocket Hunter, the fan 2D doujin fighter inspired by the manga, Hunter X Hunter! We're shifting focus to a game that's more like Capcom's Super Gem Fighter: Mini Mix. ... More info, soon!

'Cluster X Cluster: Nyan Impact'!

Coming in 202X from the stray cats at Data West Towers, is Nyan Impact. It's a 2D fighting game that is an obvious homage to the manga series Hunter X Hunter (and more specifically, the Bushiroad fighting game, Hunter X Hunter Nen Impact). We saw the upcoming Nen Impact, and because we're a bunch of cheeky urchins, thought that we could design something similar, without infringing on any copyrights. So, what you have here, is Nyan Impact, which is basically a pared-down alternative to Nen Impact, with a cast of feline characters to avoid treading on anyone's paws.

(And, in case you were wondering, a 'cluster' is a term for a group of cats.)

For more on the game as it's released (if it's released!), check out the Data West socials - and of course, don't forget to buy Nen Impact when it comes out on the 17th July, 2025. Thank you!

Eat Fighter Zero!

"If you've eaten out at any time in your life, you'll know them well... but now, mascots from several major fast-food outlets cross fists to find the ultimate culinary champion. Data West brings you a 2D fighting game concept so sweet, it'll give you diabetes! ... 'Eat Fighter Zero', coming in 202X to a PC near you!"

... What more can I say? Keep checking the socials, folks!

BombCat Update: Liu Nyan!

The first 'Awful BombCat' concept art is of martial-artist explosive device, 'Liu Nyan'. As you might have guessed, he's a parody of the main character in that game with all the fun ways to end your opponent. And yes, the nunchaku are sticks of dynamite without fuses, thank you for asking.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, 'Awful BombCat' is a 2D fighter that may or may not be a homage to another game with a similar name, in the works at Data West Towers. So far, there are three confirmed characters, but only one has been fleshed out. There's Liu, as you know, but also 'Bad Mr. Frosty', and 'Lots Of Arms Sharon' (placeholder names to avoid copyright infringement).

For more information about the game as it's released, please check the Data West socials! Thank you!
