Folks, Nyan Impact is dead... long live Pocket Hunter, the fan 2D doujin fighter inspired by the manga, Hunter X Hunter! We're shifting focus to a game that's more like Capcom's Super Gem Fighter: Mini Mix. ... More info, soon!

'Cluster X Cluster: Nyan Impact'!

 

Coming in 202X from the stray cats at Data West Towers, is Nyan Impact. It's a 2D fighting game that is an obvious homage to the manga series Hunter X Hunter (and more specifically, the Bushiroad fighting game, Hunter X Hunter Nen Impact). We saw the upcoming Nen Impact, and because we're a bunch of cheeky urchins, thought that we could design something similar, without infringing on any copyrights. So, what you have here, is Nyan Impact, which is basically a pared-down alternative to Nen Impact, with a cast of feline characters to avoid treading on anyone's paws.

(And, in case you were wondering, a 'cluster' is a term for a group of cats.)

Elenya!

Here's the latest concept art for Awful BombCat, a 2D fighting game in the works at Data West. This is 'Elenya', a friendly practitioner of Capoeira from Africa. (And also a lethal explosive device.)

Eat Fighter Zero!

"If you've eaten out at any time in your life, you'll know them well... but now, mascots from several major fast-food outlets cross fists to find the ultimate culinary champion. Data West brings you a 2D fighting game concept so sweet, it'll give you diabetes! ... 'Eat Fighter Zero', coming in 202X to a PC near you!"

BombCat Update: Liu Nyan!

The first 'Awful BombCat' concept art is of martial-artist explosive device, 'Liu Nyan'. As you might have guessed, he's a parody of the main character in that game with all the fun ways to end your opponent. And yes, the nunchaku are sticks of dynamite without fuses, thank you for asking.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, 'Awful BombCat' is a 2D fighter that may or may not be a homage to another game with a similar name, in the works at Data West Towers. So far, there are three confirmed characters, but only one has been fleshed out. There's Liu, as you know, but also 'Bad Mr. Frosty', and 'Lots Of Arms Sharon' (placeholder names to avoid copyright infringement).

BombCat Update #1

Update to the Awful BombCat logo. As for the game itself, it's still in progress. The current thinking is that the style will be similar to the versions of fighting games on handhelds (like Nintendo Game Boy and Neo-Geo Pocket). So far, we have two characters that are going to appear, that take influence from Sheeva and Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat, but there's no solid work like concept art as yet. Aside from that, we're gradually ticking along... there's no particular hurry. The release date of 202X still remains solid.

Awful BombCat!

Data West's latest project is Awful BombCat. If you recognize the game it's a parody of, give the boy a biscuit. If not, it's a 2D fighter featuring cute kitties, that also happen to be lethal explosive devices. Power Stone? Progress Soon!

 

I know we've been bombarding the socials with new projects recently, but this is the last one for a while - pinky promise! Power Stone Flat is a 2D homage to Capcom's legendary arena fighting game franchise. It's very early days, but this one could be a game to watch out for, if it gets past the concept stage. Which it will, of course. When have we ever given up on a project? :)

It looks like Uncle Ninty is too busy counting all its' Mario Kart money to release a new Zelda game, so I guess it's down to us. New 'Link's Awakening' fighting game coming out in 202X, folks. Want Tarin to throw a Hadouken? Sure you do!

The SMTF gravy train keeps rollin' on, friends! The very first character on the roster is 'Master B.', a Bob-Omb martial artist. What does the 'B' stand for? Why, 'Bomuhei' (Bob-Omb's Japanese name), of course! And why is Master B. the first character? No arms or legs to animate, my dear!

Coming soon to a PC near you... Super Mario: The Fighting, a 2D brawler set in the Mushroom Kingdom. I know, you're thinking 'didn't Smash Brothers already do this?', but this game focuses solely on the Mario universe - hopefully, we'll give some screen time to characters that don't get a lot of love. Powerful Platformer Posting!

It's been a while since last we posted about Platformer King, Data West's upcoming 2D fighter. You may be wondering, 'What's the roster looking like?'. Well, my friends, a wise man put it far better than I ever could, when he said "You'll be hooked on the brothers!".

... Donkey Kong isn't the only hero who can have a bonanza in 2025! :)
